About PERSISTENCE
PERSISTENCE tracks five people whose lives interconnect through the documents that describe, define, and decide their emotions and actions for a span of a few months (January 2003-May 2003). It examines the documents that surround a person's life, the way that memories and information are physically recorded on paper, and the way texts connect and bind people: notes, letters, emails, journals, phone conversations transcripts, instant messages...
The story is told not through the pages of a book but completly through documents. These documents are not comprehensive but merely a selected sampling of documents of these people's lives. In no way is this a thorough look at all documents in these people's lives. Rather, it is merely a sampling of various documents they encounter, some vital, some trivial.
PERSISTENCE explores these documents and sees how they link and as an extension,. how they link people together

How to Read PERSISTENCE
The Calendar

To use the calendar, simply scroll to the appropriate month and click on a desired document. Each document will have at least one document icon link. The color represents whose document it is, based on the person. A document related to multiple people will have several document icon links, one per person involved.
The Documents

Each document follows a similar format. The date completed, down to the time, and the type help provide information on the context of the document. Along both sides of the document, there are gray links that move to either the previous or next collective document, which could be written by anyone. At the bottom, each person involved will have their banner displayed along with two arrays. These personalized arrays move to either the previous or next document related to that person.
If any arrows look like ends, it means that is one of the end points to a person's document history (eiuther the beginning or the end). Everyone talks about other people all the time so information about any of the people can be found in documents unrelated to them.
So to read PERSISTENCE, follow any links. Follow the collective links and read documents in chronological order. Follow the personal links and trace the life of one of the characters. Follow any links that are appealling, moving backward and forward through time and from person to person. PERSISTENCE is open to many different reading paths.
